Who we are

FluentIta is a free website for learning Italian, operated from Italy. For anything related to your personal data you can contact us at info@fluentita.com.

What data we collect

  • Account data. If you sign in with Google we receive your name, email address, and profile picture. We use them only to identify your account. We never see your Google password.
  • Lesson bookings. When you book a conversation lesson we store the lesson details (teacher, date, duration, price) together with your name and email, so that your teacher knows who booked and can confirm your payment.
  • Payments. Lesson payments are made directly via PayPal or bank transfer, and premium subscriptions are processed by Stripe. We never see or store your card numbers or bank credentials.
  • Newsletter. If you subscribe, we store your email address with our email provider, Resend, and use it only to send you the newsletter. You are added only after you confirm from the email we send you, and every newsletter has a one-click unsubscribe link.
  • Learning progress. Your exercise progress and vocabulary review data are stored locally in your browser (localStorage), not on our servers.
  • Usage analytics. We use Vercel Analytics, which collects anonymous, aggregated visit statistics without cookies and without identifying you.

How we use your data

We use your data only to run the site: signing you in, managing your lesson bookings and subscription, sending the newsletter to those who asked for it, and improving the service through anonymous statistics. We do not sell your data or use it for advertising.

Where your data lives

The site is hosted on Vercel and account/booking data is stored with Supabase. Speaking practice audio is processed in real time by OpenAI to power the conversation feature and is not used by us to identify you. These providers process data on our behalf under their own privacy and security commitments.

Pronunciation practice works differently: the scoring is done by your own browser's speech recognition, so your recording never reaches our servers and we never store it. Be aware that in some browsers — Chrome in particular — that feature sends the audio to the browser maker's own service to transcribe it, under their privacy policy and not ours. If you would rather that did not happen, simply do not grant the microphone permission; every other exercise works without it.

Cookies

We use only the technical cookies needed to keep you signed in. We do not use advertising or profiling cookies.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you can ask us at any time to access, correct, or delete the personal data we hold about you, or to receive a copy of it. Just email info@fluentita.com and we will take care of it.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy we will update this page and the date at the top.
