The agency and the interview
Sign up at an employment agency: your experience, shifts and getting there.
Key words
Read these before you listen: you will hear most of them.
l'agenzia per il lavorothe employment agency
Il contratto me l'ha fatto l'agenzia per il lavoro.
Feminine. Many people still call it l'agenzia interinale. The agency hires you and sends you to work for a company; by law it may not charge you for finding work.
il magazzinothe warehouse / stockroom
Lavoro in un magazzino nella zona industriale.
Masculine, plural i magazzini. A false friend: a magazine is una rivista. Un grande magazzino, though, is a department store.
il magazziniere / la magazzinierathe warehouse worker
L'agenzia cerca magazzinieri per il periodo di Natale.
Two forms, like most job names. Job ads often use the masculine plural for everyone: cercasi magazzinieri.
il curriculumthe CV / résumé
Ho mandato il curriculum a tre agenzie.
Masculine and invariable: i curriculum. Often just il CV, said ci-vu. You mandare or lasciare il curriculum.
il colloquiothe interview
Domani ho un colloquio di lavoro.
Masculine. Un colloquio di lavoro is a job interview, and a colloquio with a teacher is a parents' meeting. Un'intervista is a journalist's interview.
i turni a rotazionerotating shifts
Facciamo turni a rotazione: una settimana mattina, una pomeriggio.
Masculine plural. Shifts that change week by week. Il turno di notte is the night shift; essere di turno is to be on shift.
disponibileavailable / willing
Sono disponibile anche il sabato e la domenica.
One form for both genders. In interviews disponibilità means both when you can work and how willing you are to help.
la patentethe driving licence
Ho preso la patente a diciotto anni.
Feminine, and a false friend: a patent is il brevetto. Prendere la patente is to pass your driving test.
