  • il / la badantethe home carer (for an elderly person)

La badante vive con la signora e la aiuta tutto il giorno.

Same form for both genders; plural i / le badanti. From badare a, to look after: bado a mio nonno.

  • la / il colfthe domestic worker / housekeeper

La colf viene tre mattine alla settimana a pulire e stirare.

Invariable, short for collaboratrice familiare. A colf looks after the house; a badante looks after a person. Both are covered by the same national contract for domestic work.

  • anzianoelderly / old (person)

Mia nonna è anziana, ma vive ancora da sola.

Lo stipendio è più basso perché vitto e alloggio sono compresi.

  • l'esperienzathe experience

    È stata un'esperienza indimenticabile.

Feminine, and countable in a way English resists: ho fatto un'esperienza — Italians do an experience rather than have one.

One form for both genders. In interviews disponibilità means both when you can work and how willing you are to help.
