Italian pronominal verbs: farcela, andarsene, cavarsela

Idiomatic pronominal verbs: farcela, andarsene, cavarsela, prendersela, volerci...

In Italian: Verbi pronominali idiomatici

These verbs swallow one or two pronouns and change meaning completely. Fare is to do; farcela is to manage it. Andare is to go; andarsene is to leave, to be off.

The pronouns move as the verb is conjugated, and they stay with it: me ne vado, ce l'ho fatta, se la cava bene, non prendertela.

volerci and metterci both talk about how long something takes, from different angles: ci vogliono due ore, ci metto due ore.

Questo lavoro è troppo per me: non ___ più. (farcela)
