Italian direct and indirect object pronouns: lo, la, li, le, gli

Direct object pronouns (lo, la, li, le) and indirect object pronouns (gli, le).

In Italian: Pronomi diretti e indiretti

A direct object pronoun answers who or what — lo, la, li, le: compri il pane? Sì, lo compro. An indirect one answers to whom — gli to him or to them, le to her: gli telefono domani.

In a normal sentence both sit before the verb, but they attach to the end of an infinitive, a gerund or an informal imperative: voglio vederlo, dammelo.

In the passato prossimo a direct object pronoun makes the participle agree with it: le ho viste, li ho comprati.

Vedi Maria? Sì, ___ vedo ogni giorno.
